Oct. 17th – 19th: As if they had not done enough already, Jack was waiting for us to get up and completely hooked up
the trailer for travel. They are going
to do their shopping today and maybe a balloon ride. I’m really going to miss them!
Onward as always! Next
stop is Surprise, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix, to visit cousins living in a mobile
home retirement community.
They are
transplants from Flint, Michigan, but have lived in Surprise for more than 30
years. The Resort also welcomes transient
campers and conveniently found me a spot near my cousins. I haven’t seen my cousins in many years and,
like my class reunion, the years just melted away. We spent many hours catching
up on family events and every evening took to the pool for exercise and
relaxation. The four of them are in
their 80’s and move faster than I do.
Molly was once again a big celebrity and soon gobbling up all the
attention and treats. Desert scenery is not my favorite but my body never felt
so good. No arthritis here! Anything outside that is green is tended to
as if it were a cherished commodity better than gold. Trailer parks are not what you think if you
are from the east. The common area is
almost as large as the mobile home spots.
It has three pools, sauna, ballroom/stage, activities, wood and stain
glass shops, offices, library, lounge areas and the list goes on. They have no need to leave other than doctor
appointments or the grocery store. There
were so many activities they said I would not be single long if I stayed longer. The cousins appeared happy, content and ready to go at a moment's notice never focusing on their medical issues of which they many. They both had motor homes and travel during the summer to a cooler climate.
| Opal and Jim are first cousins; Jerry and Dorothy are brother and sister. They live next door to each other - now that is family! |
